Brommel-Hahs Lecture Series: Art as/in/for Social Practice!

On April 1, Eric, Damon, and Edra will be in conversation for the Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) Brommel-Hahs Lecture Series: Art as/in/for Social Practice! The one-day event will feature workshops from NEIU students, a public lecture, and an exhibition reception.

Opening April 4 (and on view through May 31, 2025), Museum of Miracles, a solo exhibition of Cam’s work opens at the Center for Mad Culture founded by Matt. The exhibition invites viewers into a world shaped by color, industry, and conspiracy. “Through Copper Odyssey 2: Museum of Miracles, an interactive game, players become Angels navigating a museum where forgotten paintings await rediscovery.”
Politics of Poetics: Molly McCully Brown and Matt Bodett

On April 5, Matt will be in conversation with poet Molly McCully for Politics of Poetics: Molly McCully Brown and Matt Bodett at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. Molly will read a selection of her work including poems from her critically acclaimed debut collection, The Virginia State Colony for Epileptics and Feebleminded (Persea Books, 2017). Matt will join her in conversation about his recently published work Dunning: Special Report, a book on the Cook County Asylum.

On April 10 (and showing through May 4, 2025), Michael stars in Obliteration, a “fusion of stand-up and theater that tells the story of two comedians, trying to make sense of a world that’s falling apart, even as their own lives are hanging on by a thread.”

3Arts Artist: Meida McNeal
On April 12, Meida presents a screening of Fifth City Revisited at Links Hall, a work telling “the story of a radical community movement from the 1960s-1990s on the Westside of Chicago. Part memoir, part history lesson, and part urban planning critique, Fifth City Revisited explores how we create healthy communities while also considering the scale at which we must do this work in order to grow and sustain it.”

On April 15, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and Bodies of Work invite the public to Access Praxis: Pooja Pittie. Access Praxis brings ideas about disability culture into reality. Pooja will discuss her journey as a self-taught painter and fiber artist living with a progressive form of muscular dystrophy.

On April 17-19, Red Clay Dance Company returns to the Dance Center Columbia College Chicago with a restaging of Vershawn’s Written on the Flesh. The program explores emotional depth, technical prowess, and thought-provoking themes. In addition to Written on the Flesh, the concert features the world premiere Field: New Ground by award-winning choreographer Bebe Miller.

On April 18-19, the Praise Mother Squad presents VOIR DIRE at Steppenwolf. VOIR DIRE “explores the presence and absence of choice from bodily autonomy by embracing unapologetic movement sequences in the Black majorette style while inviting collaborators to work through their own stylings of playful improvisation and deliberate commentary.”

On April 27, Carloyn’s 3AP Project-funded work, Fun & Games will debut as a free, one-day show at the Evanston Art Center. Featuring live music, a multidisciplinary circus artist, and a post-show party, “Fun & Games is a seamless theatrical experience—including music, theatre, poetry, songs of childhood games, tops, circus acts, storytime, and audience participation pieces with a collective scream for a much needed catharsis.”
