Rae-Myra Hilliard

Rae-Myra Hilliard is equally at home in operatic, solo concert, and choral singing. As an active recitalist, Rae-Myra regularly programs works featuring Black American composers/lyricists or works written for a classical singer of color. Her most recent recital performed in February 2020, “My View of America," featured all Black American composers. Her CD, Lifescapes: One Woman’s Journey also features songs and arias by Black American composers. Her newest project is a lecture series entitled Queens of Composition: Excellence in the Music by Black-American Women.”

Rae-Myra is on faculty at the Theatre Conservatory of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, The Strong Voices program sponsored by Music of the Baroque (Solorio High School), and Niles West High School as an independent contractor. In addition to her performing and teaching, Rae-Myra is the Director of Music at St. James Lutheran Church in Lake Forest, Illinois. She is a member of NATS, AGMA, and the National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM) through the R. Nathaniel Dett Club. Rae-Myra was a recipient of a 2021 Make a Wave Award through 3Arts.
