ESCP is an electric-acoustic performance duo that I started in 2016 with my good friend and long-time collaborator, Bob Garrett. For the past year and a half we have created and performed new compositions that explore the presence of music as soundtracks to our lives. Our compositions have helped us to express and embrace feelings of love, growth, loss, and courage, as well as aspiration for the future. With this campaign, we hope to raise the funding to record these compositions so that we can share them with the world. For each of us in our own ways, the past year has been one of great transition and challenge. I feel hope in knowing that dark times can bring the brightest of light and that the next beautiful flower is always right around the corner. Your support for this project will mean the world to us. It will also make you an equal partner in bringing this music to more people at a time when we feel it has the potential to uplift, heal, and inspire. Thank you for being patrons of the arts and for making our dream a reality.

About This Project

2017-2018 has to be the most challenging period of my adult life. Reclaiming independence and rebuilding a sense of self in my personal, spiritual, and career life. I realize that there is great meaning in pain. The sense of uncertainty and doubt can be a motive for reaching out and it can also be the basis for looking deep into yourself and finding what’s new and original in your experience that can be expressed through art. This new album is a direct reflection of that.

As a classically trained violinist, pianist, and erhu player, I have been performing, collaborating and recording with artists from all over the world and in various styles and genres for 15 years. I have also been touring with harmonica/piano virtuoso Corky Siegel for over a decade. My solo debut album Ways to Say Hello was a great accomplishment for me when I self-released it in 2014. It’s a mixture of world, acoustic, and electronic compositions. Bob Garrett is a freelance percussionist and sound artist who is a currently a rotating percussionist for Hamilton in Chicago. Bob has also composed and performed the percussion for the world premiere of Sting's Last Ship and toured with The Lion King for four years. He has served as an accompanist in the Dance Department at Columbia College Chicago for the past 20 years. Over time our individual compositions have complemented and influenced one another. Bob’s involvement and musical contribution will provide great inspiration and help mix up my own process of creation.

Years of training, performing, and collaborating with world-class artists have granted us the experience to expand our horizons now. We are setting out to broaden our body of work into other genres and styles, as well as beyond what may be the traditional confines of our instruments. Our immediate goal is to record this studio album and later to develop live performances that fuse various mediums of technology, instrumentation, dance, visual art, and improvisations. Funds contributed to this campaign will be critical in helping to cover production costs, album artwork, photography, marketing, and manufacturing. We plan to produce physical albums as well as a digital release. Our goal is to have an album release show by the end of 2019. This project is dear to my heart and would be a dream come true. It would also set the foundation for an ongoing collaboration and would serve as a stable platform for our continued growth as musicians.
